Your bed is the centerpiece of your bedroom and arguably the most important piece of furniture in your house.  It is there that you get the rest you need to rejuvenate yourself for the tasks of the coming day.  Why not invest in a luxurious king size bed and top it off with a king size headboard?

There are four different sizes of mattresses available.  You probably grew up sleeping on a single, or twin mattress.  The smallest mattress designed for two is the full, or double mattress.   A queen sized mattress affords two sleepers adequate space.  A king sized mattress is 80” long and 76” inches wide; there is plenty of space for two people to get a good night’s sleep.  A bed this palatial deserves an equally imposing headboard.  There are many different materials and styles of king size headboards from which to choose.

One of the most popular materials for a king size headboard is wood.  A dark, intricately carved wooden headboard can evoke feelings of Tudor grandeur or Victorian opulence.  A simple, knotty pine can give your bed the feeling of a rustic log cabin.  A streamlined black lacquered headboard is perfect for an Asian-inspired bedroom theme.  Because you have so much space with which to work – over 6 feet of length – you can even let your creativity run wild and paint a mural on your headboard.

Other people prefer sculpted metal headboards.  The most traditional look is a half-circle of polished brass with vertical pipes every nine inches or so.  Paired with a brightly patterned quilt, this combination will bring a bit of country charm into your bedroom.  Many people, however, want to use their king size headboard to create an atmosphere of modern elegance.  Metal is a great medium for this.  Brushed steel is simple geometric shapes is one of the mainstays of modern decoration.  You can even look for a headboard that has a combination of brushed and polished steel to create interesting patterns.

There are many other decorating option for your king size headboard.  You may chose to go with a padded leather headboard.  These are available in a variety of colors and also double as a backrest.  Some people look for creative headboard solutions.  They may board up the opening of a fireplace mantle and mount it to the back of their bed.  Others have taken abstract paintings and put them on solid backing to create a truly unique headboard.
